You’re not stuck. You’re just telling yourself an old story.
We’ve all done it. You try a new eating plan, fall off after a couple of weeks, and say:
“I guess I’m just not the kind of person who can lose weight.”
Sound familiar?
We’ve heard it from hundreds of women, and yes, we’ve said it ourselves.
But what if we told you that the biggest thing holding you back from real, lasting wellness… isn't your willpower, your schedule, or even your cravings?
It’s your identity.
What You Tell Yourself, You Believe
Research shows that up to 87% of the actions we take daily are habit-based - meaning they’re automatic. And those habits? They’re often driven by what we believe about ourselves.
If you believe you’re someone who can’t stick to a plan, you won’t.
If you identify as an emotional eater, you'll likely reach for food during stress.
If you think exercise “just isn’t your thing,” you won’t make space for it.
But identities aren’t fixed. You get to choose. You get to rewrite the story.
Flip the Script: Real Identity Shifts That Work
Instead of saying:
❌ “I can’t have cheese in the house…I’ll eat it all.”
âś… Try: “I fill my home with foods that fuel and energize me.”
âś… Try: “I fill my home with foods that fuel and energize me.”
❌ “I’m always tired.”
âś… Try: “I prioritize movement and mindset to feel energized.” (And yes - sometimes that just means walking to the mailbox and back!)

❌ “I’m an emotional eater.”
âś… Try: “I’m learning to process emotions without turning to food.”

These might sound simple, but identity-based habits are a cornerstone of behavior change. James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, says it perfectly:
“Every action you take is a vote for the person you want to become.”
So let us ask: who do you want to become?
Try This Today
Grab a piece of paper and write down one limiting identity you’ve been holding on to.
Flip it. Create a new identity statement that feels empowering.
Flip it. Create a new identity statement that feels empowering.
Say it out loud. Put it on a sticky note. Post it on your mirror.
Repeat it until it becomes part of who you are.
You’ll be amazed at how differently you start making choices…about food, movement, rest, and joy.
